Wind Driven Generator

Denmark.
Through out 1920s and 1930s, wind powered generators were increasingly used in America, especially in farms out of electricity distribution systems. These small wind driven generators for farms were designed in two-blade and run on horizontal axis.
In 1957, a 24m diameter wind turbine was installed and worked from 1957 to 1967, in Denmark. This was the earliest three-bladed horizontal axis wind turbine, which is similar to those we commonly used nowadays for commercially power generation.
Since then, wind power generators have been constantly used for either individual or commercial power generation.

Modern wind driven generators are mostly designed with three blades and run on horizontal axis. Some of them operate at constant speed, and some of them run on variable speed. However, wind powered electric generators operating on variable speed collect more energy. In order to prevent generator damages caused by extremely strong wind, modern wind powered generators are usually manufactured with shut down functions.
