Applications
1. Drilling Mud
The industrial grade sodium bromide in the solid or liquid state is mainly used for preparing the oilfield drilling mud. It can function as the completion fluid, cementing fluid, and the workover fluid.

2. Pharmaceuticals
The pharmaceutical grade product serves to manufacture sedatives, hypnotics, anticonvulsants, and other medicines.

3. Dense Fluids in Oil Wells
In petroleum industry, sodium bromide is utilized to prepare dense fluids used in oil wells.

4. Other Bromides
In organic synthesis and other areas, NaBr is broadly applicable for preparing other bromine compounds. As a source of bromide nucleophile, it can convert alkyl chlorides to more reactive alkyl bromides by Finkelstein reaction.

5. Photographic Film
The photo grade product is mostly applicable to production of photographic film. The photosensitive salt silver bromide is prepared in use of NaBr.

6. Disinfectant
Sodium bromide can be used in conjunction with chlorine as a disinfectant for swimming pools.
