DescriptionMany watch manufacturers prefer 201 stainless steel coils over other types in the production of watch cases, straps, and bottom covers. In addition to making watches, type 201 stainless steel is also the steel material of choice for shallow drawn parts.

In terms of acid and base corrosion, grade 201 steel has a relatively high resistance level and is highly dense to remain smooth after being polished without showing pits or air voids.

At the most basic level, 201 stainless steel is a kind of austenitic steel that can not be hardened via heat treatment. The material is usually put through a cold working process to gain high strength and low temperature malleability, making it the ideal choice for cold rolling.

Like 301 stainless steel, type 201 can be drawn, bent or roll formed easily. But it does not weld too well as type 308.
