Characteristics and Applications
1. Tetrabromophthalic anhydride can be abbreviated to TBPA, and its equivalent brand is PHT-4. This product is primarily used as the reactive flame retardant for the production of both level I and level II rigid polyurethane foams. In addition, TBPA is applicable for the manufacturing of flameproof polyurethane gasket, elastomer material, coating binder, as well as textiles.

2. TBPA is slightly brown and viscous liquid, which contains 46% of bonded aromatic bromine. This brominated flame retardant shows ultra high stability in mixed resins.


3. During the production of foam plastic material, the desirable flame retardant property and physical property can be achieved and controlled by adjusting the dosage of tetrabromophthalic anhydride.


It has been proved that the increased dosage of TBPA can not only soften the material, but also improve the product’s coking resistance, smokiness, as well as flame propagation. The existence of bonded aromatic bromine can make the performance of this reactive flame retardant rather stable, which also helps prolong the period of validity of the resin.


4. If the foam plastic material is treated with tetrabromophthalic anhydride, both the amount of smoke and the speed of flame propagation will be extremely low, and simultaneously this material can provide outstanding physical properties and low price. However, the viscosity is relatively high at room temperature, and the surface brittleness needs to be eliminated.
