Radio Frequency Identification Card

Technical Specification
The radio frequency identification card (RFID) refers to the small electronic device that consists of a small chip and an antenna which transmits the identity (in the form of a unique serial number) of an object or person wirelessly, using radio waves and tags attached to objects.

The tags contain electronically stored information. Some tags are powered and read at short ranges via magnetic fields (electromagnetic induction). Others use a local power source such as a battery or else to collect energy from the interrogating EM field, and then act as a passive transponder to emit microwaves or UHF radio waves. Battery powered tags may operate at hundreds of meters. The tag is different from the barcode and it does not need to be within sight of the reader, and may be embedded in the tracked object.

Radio Frequency Identification Card

RFID tags used for the radio frequency identification card are applicable in many industries. An RFID attached to an automobile during production can be used to track its progress through the assembly line. Pharmaceuticals can be tracked via warehouses. The livestock and pets may have tags injected, allowing positive identification of the animal.

Since RFID tags can be attached to clothing, possessions, or even implanted within people, privacy concerns have increased because of the possibility of reading personally-linked information without consent.

RFID chips contain a radio-frequency electromagnetic field coil that employs a magnetic field to emit a coded identification number when queried by a reader device. This small device is merged into consumer products, and even implanted in pets for identification.
