A prefabricated substation, also called box-type substation, is a piece of compact indoor or outdoor distribution equipment which is composed of the high voltage switchgear, distribution transformer, and low voltage distribution unit according to some wiring method. It combines the functions of high voltage introduction, voltage reduction, and low voltage distribution together.

As a good replacement for power distribution room and pole-mounted transformer, the FZB prefabricated substation is extensively used in urban network construction.
