Butterfly Valve

A butterfly valve is a disk mounted on a rotating shaft, when is fullyclosed, the disk completely blocks the line and when is fully opened, the diskis parallel to the gas or liquid flowing. The valve disk is still in theflowing line when is fully open, there will always be a pressure drop across abutterfly valve; if the pressure is significant, it may be difficult to openthe valve. Someapplications require a bypass valve to bring the pressure difference downbefore large butterfly valves can operate.

Butterfly Valve

One of the advantages for butterfly valves is that they arerelatively inexpensive to build and maintain. They are the most common valvefor large volume water systems such as municipal water works. They can be usedfor dirty liquid applications such as sewage or controlling river water.
