The drop out fuse cutout is a type of outdoor high voltage protective device. It is installed in the high voltage side of the distribution transformer or in the distribution line for overload and short circuit protection.
Our drop out fuse cutout consists of insulating support and fuse tube. The fuse tube is composed of the inner arc suppression tube and the outer epoxy glass tube. The stationary contacts are installed in both ends of the insulating support and the moveable contacts are mounted on both ends of the fuse tube. The load-break drop out fuse cutout is added with elastic auxiliary contacts and interrupter cover for switching load current.
During normal operation of the cut-out fuse, the fuse element strains to form a closed position. When a fault arises in the system, the fuse element is blown quickly by the fault current and arc is formed. The arc suppression tube is heated by the arc and large amounts of gases are released, so that the pressure inside the tube becomes very high. The released gases blow along the longitudinal direction of the tube. Then, the arc is elongated rapidly and extinguished.
After the fuse element blows, the bottom moveable contact turns down due to the absence of tension. The locking mechanism releases the fuse element and the element drops, forming a distinct breaking position.
When there is a need to break the load, use an insulating stick to open the moving contact. At this time, the main moving and stationary contacts are separated, but the auxiliary contacts are still in contact. Then, continue to open the moving contact with the insulating stick until the moving contact is isolated from the auxiliary contact. Afterwards, electrical arc occurs between the auxiliary contacts and it is elongated in the slit of the interrupter cover. Meanwhile, gases are released in the interrupter cover. When the current crosses zero, the arc is extinguished.
