Steel Pipe Coupling

The steel pipe coupling commonly found in pipingorplumbing is short in length. A common coupler is provided with a socket atone or both ends that allows for jointing, welding, brazingor soldering of two pipes or tubes. Alternatively it is available in twofemale National pipe threads (NPT) or two male or female British standard pipe(BSP) threads. Asfar as concerned North American terms, a coupler is has double female while anipple has double male threads.

The term of adaptercoupling is commonly used when the two ends of a coupler are different from eachother. For example, this term comes into use when one end is BSP threaded andthe other is NPT threaded, or one plain socket and one threaded socket, or one3/4" NPT and one 1/2" NPT. In addition, the term ofreducing or reducer coupler is used when the two ends use the sameconnection method but are of a different size.
