Pipemidic Acid

Properties
Pipemidic Acid is an odorless, yellowish crystalline powder which has bitter taste. This product is slightly soluble in methanol or dimethylformamide. It is very slightly soluble in water or chloroform, but insoluble in ethanol, diethyl ether, or benzene.


Additionally, Pipemidic Acid is easily soluble in sodium hydroxide solution or glacial acetic acid. Its melting point ranges from 251℃ to 256℃. This product melts while simultaneously being decomposed.


Uses
1. As an antimicrobial drug, Pipemidic Acid acts against different types of Gram-negative bacilli such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus, Klebsiella, and Shigella. It has no cross resistance to all kinds of antibiotics.
2. This product is clinically useful against otitis media, bacillary dysentery, cystitis, urinary tract infection, and acute or chronic pyelonephritis resulting from susceptible bacteria.
