Pipe Gasket

The pipe gasket is a sealing element placed between two sealing surfaces for avoiding fluid leakage. It is generally made from a sheet material such as packing paper, rubber, silicone, metal, cork wood, felt, chloroprene rubber, nitrile rubber, fiberglass or plastic polymer like PTFE. The gasket for special applications may contain asbestos.

The pipe gasket is a mechanical seal between two objects. It can prevent the leakage caused by pressure and corrosion as well as natural expansion and contraction of pipeline. The machining surface cannot be perfect enough to be absolutely flat and a gasket can offset the irregularity.

The washer is typically a circular thin plate with a hole in the center. It is usually applied as the fastener for distributed load, as well as employed as the spacer, spring (wave washer), wear pad, preliminary display device and locking device. The rubber gasket is also used in the water faucet or valve for cutting off the flowing liquid or gas. The rubber or silicone gasket can also be used to reduce the vibration of a fan. Generally, the outside diameter is approximately two times the inside diameter.
