As a construction material, magnesium oxidewallboards have several attractive characteristics: fire resistance, moistureresistance, mold and mildew resistance, and strength. Magnesium oxide is usedas an insulator in industrial cables, as a basic refractory material forcrucibles and as a principal fireproofing ingredient in construction materials.It is also one of the raw materials for making cement in dry process plants.Production of MgO-basedcement using serpentinite and waste CO₂may reduceanthropogenic emissions of CO₂.Besides, it is also used as a protective coating in plasma displays.
